Best Times To Post On Social Media

Getting your timing right on social media posting is critical to maximising your engagement and clicks. Most businesses these days post across several different social media accounts and each platform has it’s own timing sweet spot. Let’s take a look at the key players in the market in more detail and top tips for getting your timing right.

1. Post On Twitter  | Weekdays | 12-3pm

Twitter works best on weekdays. Optimal times are from 12-3 pm Monday to Friday and at 5 pm to catch daily commuters with plenty of time to read and engage. Avoid early morning and late at night. Of all the weekdays Thursday tends to perform the strongest. So if you’ve got a key post don’t miss a Thursday 12-3 pm slot!

2. Post On Facebook | Afternoon | 1-4 pm

Whilst it’s hard to get it wrong with your posting time on Facebook there are certainly sweet spots to focus on for the best performance and results.
Post on Facebook in the afternoon Wednesday to Sunday. Days that perform the strongest are Thursday and Friday. The 1 pm slot seems to attract the most shares and 3 pm the most clicks. Also, Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm seem to claim 32% more engagement. Be mindful that Facebook is largely a B2C platform and B2B posting at weekends might be best avoided sticking with the working week. Keep your posts short around 50 characters works best.

3. Post On LinkedIn | Weekdays | Before 9 pm and After 5 pm

LinkedIn is the professional social network with a primary focus on B2B. The best times to post are 7 – 8 am and 5 – 6 pm. Nothing later than 7 pm or before 6 am. Avoid any posting at weekends. Specific sweet spot times are noon and 5 pm Tuesday through Thursday are the most optimal times to get posting.

4. Post On Pinterest | The Weekender | Fridays and Saturdays

Best to think of Pinterest as your weekend platform. Fridays to Sundays are the best days to post. With Saturday performing strongest between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. With Pinterest late at night works best up till 3 am – for those that can stay awake that late!

5. Post On Instagram Monday to Friday

Instagram is great for engagement the best of all the platforms. You can pretty much post any time except avoid 3 pm for some reason this is a dead zone on Instagram. Best times are 2 am (again if you’re awake then – your customers might be), 8 am and 5 pm. Monday performs strongest in terms of engagement.
Instagram is on the up as a platform and it’s predicted to overtake Twitter with the number of companies using it by the end of 2017 over 70% compared to 67% for Twitter.

6. Post On Google+ | Wednesdays

Posting on Google+ Monday through to Friday is fine; with the mornings performing best 9 am to 11 am. However, Wednesdays perform best overall 9 am to 3 pm.

Other points to to consider for social media

  • Which Social Media Platform is right for me?
As a rule, it’s best to focus on 1 or 2 social media platforms consistently posting and engaging rather than spread yourself too thinly across too many. This might involve some experimentation to find the platform that suits you best and is where your customers are found. If you have the budget and resources then great work across them all to drive brand awareness and engagement otherwise think carefully before selecting your preferred platforms
  • What should I post?
It’s best to post a mix of your own content, curated content from around the web and promotional content. The balance across these is important – remember it’s about providing value to your customers, meaning focusing on mostly promotional content for your business is not the way to go. Percentage wise think of 30% is your own content, 60% curated and 10% promotional.
  • What social media management tool should I use?
There are many tools out there to help you manage and schedule your posting activity. Listed below are a few of the most popular ones. Features vary hugely across these as well as pricing. If you’re looking for an enterprise management tool then head towards Hubspot. If you’re looking for something for the smaller business and budget then Hootsuite is a great starter tool – it also has a Free Plan that allows you to scheduled posts for up to 3 accounts, something the others don’t offer.

So, in summary, don’t post indiscriminately across your social media accounts give some thought to posting on the best days and times to maximise engagement and clicks. Use a social media management tool to help you do this.

So in summary the best days and times to post on each social media platform

1. Post On Twitter  | Weekdays | 12-3pm

2. Post On Facebook | Afternoon | 1-4 pm

3. Post On LinkedIn | Weekdays | Before 9 pm and After 5 pm

4. Post On Pinterest | The Weekender | Fridays and Saturdays

5. Post On Instagram Monday to Friday

6. Post On Google+ | Wednesdays
